I feed regular game cock feed. I think around 14 percent. with a occasional handfull of whole corn. that is for cocks in pens. all of my hens free range.so they get everything. What are you feeding?
I feed young birds, to about 4 months, 30% protein gamefowl starter. When the birds feather out a little and are large enough to go into pens, I switch them to Purina Flock Raiser and give a little scratch grains. In addition to the store bought feed, I give grass clipping from when I mow the lawn and assorted weeds and garden surplus (tomatoes, squash, cabbage, greens, etc.). I try to avoid animal proteins and often will spend hours sitting with my birds offering apple slices and having to fight off the apple lovers in the pens...
I feed Purina Gamebird starter at 30% for the first 2 mos. then for the next month I slowly mix in Gamebird Blend at 14% until they are only on blend from that point on. Of course they get greens and such. I`ve found that too much protien during the growing stages can cause bone problems. They never had high protien where they came from. Chicks seem to get a good start on 30% though.......Paul
